A type of predatory marketing that’s become all too common in the online space (or in the world, really).
In this episode, we’re spilling everything about mean girl marketing from the red flags we’ve noticed to the ways we’ve accidentally done it ourselves.
As a biz owner, there are a million and one investments you’re gonna want to make, but not all of them will be worth it.
Listen in to hear what investments we’ve made and the #1 thing we’ve missed that always led to an investment we ended up regretting.
Hindsight really is 20/20—but hopefully, the lessons we’ve learned the hard way are ones you can relate to or skip altogether.
In this episode, we’re looking back at lessons we’ve learned, the sh*t no one tells you when you start a biz, and the serious self-doubt we’ve all had to overcome.
As a Pinterest expert, I see a whole lot of educators up to some shady business—selling courses with outdated info, giving people advice that won’t help grow their biz, and taking people’s money just for money’s sake.
And as someone who cares deeply about making sure others aren’t being taken advantage of—I’m here to rebel against that.
Unfiltered is a space for entrepreneurs to come together and speak out about their experiences so that we can support each other as we show up, market ourselves, and build our businesses.
I got into systems and client experience after building a business that followed all of the “I-should-be-doing-this” rules, leading me straight to burnout town.
So I packed up my bags, said screw it to hustle culture, and began creating a business that revolved around my lifestyle rather than the other way around.
And so much of what we talk about on Unfiltered is about that—helping fellow entrepreneurs in the online space build businesses that put them first, help them grow sustainably, and are inspired by their own definitions of success.
When I first started my copywriting biz, I found myself spending a ridiculous amount of time wondering about all the things I was doing wrong. Because everywhere I scrolled there were people posting about hitting 20K months in the first 3 weeks of their biz and feeling lit up every morning as they started their day while little birdies helped them get dressed.
Meanwhile, I was hustling my ass off and doubting the hell out of my skills and abilities.
Unfiltered exists to talk about that side of the things—because while running your own business is freaking awesome, there’s a whole lot of hard stuff that comes with it, too. And we can’t just skip over that.
Namely, sleazy marketing tactics.
(You know the kind, heavy on the FOMO and the “you won’t get there without me” messaging, and light on the consideration for the person who is on the receiving end.)
As we swapped horror stories and ranted away, we realized that there was no way we were the only people feeling this way—and that even though mean girl marketing was running rampant—no one else seemed to be talking about it.
The whole podcast vibe is about building a community with people like you—an honest, down-to-earth, and brilliant human who’s a little fed up with the flashy nonsense being shared about entrepreneurship, but not the hard and honest convos about the mistakes business owners have made, the things that aren’t great about the online industry, and the “I-don’t-know-if-I’m-cut-out-for-entrepreneurship” moments.
Is real as hell and digs into the topics that everyone’s thinking about, but no one’s dishing on.
Is casual, conversational, and is all about the real experiences of running an online biz (and not just the “I-love-my-life moments”).
Covers the scary self-doubt, insecurities, and rampant imposter syndrome that we all face, but can be hard to admit you’re experiencing.
Will, hopefully, encourage the hell out of you, make you feel genuinely supported, and get a few good giggles going.
Invites you to share anything that’s on YOUR mind—whether it’s a topic you want us to discuss, a subject we’ve covered and you disagree about, or something we’ve said that you couldn’t agree more with.
WE’D SERIOUSLY LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND
We created this podcast with the hope of building a community that allows for you to be seen, heard, and valued too. If there’s a topic you’d like us to discuss on the podcast or if you have a comment to make about any of our previous podcast episodes—we’re all ears.
